{"id":2462,"date":"2017-09-07T21:26:06","date_gmt":"2017-09-07T21:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=2462"},"modified":"2020-06-11T17:18:29","modified_gmt":"2020-06-11T17:18:29","slug":"pre-release-snip-editions","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/pre-release-snip-editions\/","title":{"rendered":"Pre Release SNIP editions, 1.x"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Note<\/strong><\/span>: The content below is overcome by this<a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/pre-release-snip-editions-2-x\/\"> newer entry<\/a> serving the needs of the Rev 2.x release.<\/p>\n<p>Some of our licensed users have asked for the development team to post the latest edition of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> with developing but officially still <em>unreleased<\/em> features at a common page. <strong>This page has been created to serve that need.<\/strong>\u00a0 Most users will <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> need these transitory downloads and should wait until the production build is tested and placed into a general release.\u00a0\u00a0 <strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Consider these releases to be like the &#8220;weekly build&#8221; downloads found on some other sites.\u00a0 There is no reason for the average <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> deployment to use these builds.\u00a0 There is some possibility that these builds will be unstable, but of course we only learn that after the fact.\u00a0\u00a0 Not every feature developed here will be available for every model of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> (in fact few of these features are intended for the <em>free<\/em> <strong>Lite<\/strong> model), and no such promise should be implied.\u00a0 Some builds may run for less than six months after their code build release date, this will be noted if used.\u00a0 Some of these builds will require a unique password to unlock the build or the feature being tested. If the build is restricted in any way, that will be noted below. Not all interim builds will be released in this way.<\/p>\n<p>And no warranty or any fitness of use etc. should be inferred from the code placed here.\u00a0\u00a0 Our normal license terms, patent use restrictions, acknowledgments of the use of open source code in the work, and our trademarks all still apply.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong>\u00ae<\/span> is a registered trademark of <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/support-contact\/\">SCSC<\/a>.\u00a0 Now that we have gone over all the legal stuff&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You have found the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> BETA Release Channel<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Pre-Release Copies of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>, use at your own risk<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 60px;\">The information below is only of interest from a historical perspective.\u00a0 If you are still using a copy of the 1.11.9 Beta release, please update. As noted when you downloaded it, that code will cease to operate on Jan 25th. Allow the automatic update function to run when promoted and the installtion will be brought up to the production release.<\/p>\n<h3>Beta Period is now over, \u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em>1.12.x is now released<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The 1.12.0 release [now out]\u00a0 will be the final release of the first generation <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>GUI.\u00a0\u00a0 The major new features are mentioned below.\u00a0 From 2.x onward, additional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/introducing-pfat\/\"><strong>PFAT<\/strong> features<\/a> will be developed.\u00a0 A number of other functional increases are planned to be released as well.\u00a0 But these are not part of the 1.12 release cycle.<\/p>\n<p>This release will <strong>not<\/strong> trigger an automatic update of your <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> installation (that will occur when 1.12 is released).\u00a0 It will install in its own folder alongside your normal <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>installation for later removal. \u00a0 It will run until Jan 25th 2018 by which time the official 1.12 replacement will have been issued.\u00a0 You can use your existing license file with this copy, <strong><em>simply copy it to the new installation folder<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 You can run either copy of SNIP at a time (but not both), and they will both use you setting file (C:\\Users\\&lt;user&gt;\\AppData\\Roaming\\SCSC\\simpleNTRIP.ini)<\/p>\n<p><strong>In this pre-release we are particularly interested in feedback from non-English users to ensure that the localized strings (date, time, etc.) are being translated correctly.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are several new things to be mentioned in this release.<\/p>\n<h4>From GCC to MSVC2017<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">An internal change has been made to the way code is created in <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>in order to better support the Qt platform and their web browser.\u00a0 The display of various maps in <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> depends on underlying web technologies found in Qt.\u00a0 And they have decided to only support the <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.qt.io\/QtWebEngine\">QtWebEngine<\/a> on windows with MSVC rather than GCC\/Mingw as was done before.\u00a0 And therefore the project needed to move away from the prior Qt technology (where there is also a slow memory leak in the Qt web tools) and update to the current tool chain.\u00a0 A large number of internal code changes fell out from this decision. The GCC compiler will continue to be used in the Ubuntu builds of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h4>Links, graphics, and hypertext folding&#8230;<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Are all being developed in the current release to relate reports to real time data streams and to client connections.\u00a0 Some of these are now evident as you use the pre-release. \u00a0 You will see the console log details are somewhat cleaner due to the ability to use style sheets. As the visual content of several reports has grown as well, systems to <em>pause<\/em> the display for updated content has also been added.<\/p>\n<h4>P.F.A.T. is coming<\/h4>\n<p>Beyond the simple the\u00a0 <em><strong>parse<\/strong> <\/em>or <em><strong>no-parse<\/strong><\/em> selection supported in <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> today, PFAT&#x2122; allows a rich set of features to operate on every data stream in your Caster.\u00a0 This unique <strong>SNIP<\/strong> feature is described further <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/introducing-pfat\/\">here<\/a> (a preliminary link pending release).<\/p>\n<h4>Enhanced Stream menu system<\/h4>\n<p>The new release adds additional functionality and control that professional users have requested to be able to control and monitor the operations of each stream.\u00a0 A more comprehensive <em>right-click<\/em> menu system, described further here, is now added to all new releases of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Based on recent feedback, the ability to <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/banning-abusive-users-simple\/\">ban abusive users<\/a> who repeatably asked for a <em>caster table<\/em> has been added as well.\u00a0 The ability to control at a finer level what console log entries are sent or not has been added.\u00a0 These appear as additional check boxes in the (now revised) primary dialog box.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Updated-BanDislaog.com_.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4102\" 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Base Station Caster Details<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A new <em><strong>tooltip<\/strong> <\/em>feature provides additional useful details about each data stream based on the decoded message traffic.\u00a0 <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/base-station-details\/\">Read more here<\/a>.\u00a0 This makes it easy to check with a glance where the station is located or what the receiver device type is, for example.\u00a0\u00a0 Simply hover the mouse over the MountPt name for the stream of interest.\u00a0 Different streams provide different data about themselves, and this is reflected in the displayed report.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/SNIP_CasterToolTip.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4100\" src=\"\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/SNIP_CasterToolTip.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/SNIP_CasterToolTip.png 500w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/SNIP_CasterToolTip-300x190.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/SNIP_CasterToolTip-50x32.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/SNIP_CasterToolTip-320x202.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Sorting Data Streams<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The order in which data streams are added to each tab is based on the order in which they all start up.\u00a0 This typically means any new stream appears on the right side.\u00a0 In this release we simply add an alpha sorting button to each tab, another end user feature request.<\/p>\n<h4>NMEA-183 Support<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Besides the support for <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/nmea-gga-strings-in-ntrip-clients\/\">NMEA-183 $GPGGA sentence<\/a>, the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> logic has been expanded to also support the $GNGGA sentence.\u00a0 The use of this alternative sentence by NTRIP Clients is not defined, but as a few user agents send it, we have included it and treat it as a $GPGGA sentence, extracting the LLH data and plotting it.<\/p>\n<h4>Map Display Size Limited<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The display of prior points on the map (for Rover devices or for navigation solution for a Base Station) has been limited to the last 1000 points.\u00a0 This was motivated by two issues.\u00a0 First the Qt internal leak mentioned above.\u00a0 And second, by a new design to support those users that wish to use a Caster as an mean for collect field data and to drive a live AVL display.\u00a0 Further features in this area are part of the 2.x release plan. You can now leave the map up indefinitely, and you will also see it now lives in its own process.\u00a0 You will also see a new process call <em>QtWebEngineProcess<\/em> running for each active web display you have open.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/NewMapDisplay.com_.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4103\" src=\"\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/NewMapDisplay.com_.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"294\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/NewMapDisplay.com_.png 587w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/NewMapDisplay.com_-300x204.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/NewMapDisplay.com_-50x34.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/NewMapDisplay.com_-320x218.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 294px) 100vw, 294px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Evaluation Time Limits<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">New logic has been added to prompt long time unregistered users to buy or register <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>after 100 evaluation uses.\u00a0 After additional further uses, unregistered users must now <em>not<\/em> run SNIP for a 1 hour period of time which grows with use.\u00a0 This was motivated\u00a0 by a few users employing virtual machines to abuse the evaluation process.<\/p>\n<h4>RTCM3 Message Decoder \/ Viewer Changes<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The display logic used in the RTCM3 viewer was reworked to reduce the impact of an end user opening and viewing several data stream for displays in <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> at once.<\/p>\n<h4>Console Log Changes<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The character set used in <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> console reporting was moved from ASCII to be a full UTF-8 in anticipation of developing language packages for <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Minor changes to better support in non-Latin local language character sets were made and a minor Caster Table <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/non-ascii-used-caster-table\/\">error<\/a> was corrected.<\/p>\n<h4>Cost<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">As always, purchasing <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> entitles the owner to free <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-snip-yearly-fees\/\">lifetime upgrades with no fees<\/a> &#8211; so best not to wait too long.\u00a0 We anticipate that release 1.12 will be the last at the current pricing level, so you may want to consider purchases or upgrades\u00a0 sooner rather than later.
