{"id":2746,"date":"2016-12-20T20:08:35","date_gmt":"2016-12-20T20:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=2746"},"modified":"2024-12-09T20:50:30","modified_gmt":"2024-12-09T20:50:30","slug":"where-do-i-get-a-free-ntrip-client","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/where-do-i-get-a-free-ntrip-client\/","title":{"rendered":"Where do I get a free NTRIP Client?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>See also:<\/strong> <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-ntrip-client-should-i-use\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this<\/a> knowledge base article for more <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-client\/\">NTRIP Client<\/a> sources.<\/p>\n<p>From many sources, as seen in the list below.\u00a0 Unlike deploying reference stations (so called NTRIP Servers) which can be very costly, (and <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-caster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NTRIP Casters<\/a> other than <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>often cost thousands), as a rule <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-client\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NTRIP Clients<\/a> are typically provided <strong>for free<\/strong> and can be readily downloaded over the web.<\/p>\n<p>Also, be sure to ask you GNSS dealer or device vendor.\u00a0 Many, if not most, GNSS vendors can provide or can recommend an NTRIP Client to use.\u00a0 And also keep in mind that both the <em>precision Ag<\/em> market and the <em>survey market<\/em> have many specialized tools that provide a built-in NTRIP Client to use.\u00a0 There are hundreds of different NTRIP Client tools to chose from.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/rtk-ntrip-rtcm-precision-gnss-in-1-minute\/\">RTK &#8211; NTRIP &#8211; RTCM, in One Minute<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">If <em>Client<\/em>, <em>Caster<\/em>, and <em>Server<\/em> are still strange terms,<br \/>\nread about them <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a short list to start your search. Get the current release <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/rtklibexplorer\/RTKLIB\/releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">If you are trying to home brew RTK with an L1-only Ublox device (such as\u00a0 the T6), or with the newer L1\/L2 units &#8211; it is often best to start with one of these RTKLIB tools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>BKG Ntrip Client (BNC)<\/strong>\u00a0 the free product offered by\u00a0<strong>BKG<\/strong>, this is a comprehensive tool with many features. The tool is no longer distributed by BKG (as other tools have overcome it) but you can find some mirror links.\u00a0 And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amerisurv.com\/PDF\/TheAmericanSurveyor_Schrock-RTN101-Part10_October2007.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here <\/a>is a great history lesson from\u00a0<span class=\"pathway\"><span style=\"color: #5b3714;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amerisurv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The American Surveyor<\/a><\/span><\/span> that mentions it as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">NOTE:<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>If you know of a client you feel should be listed here, please drop us a note.<\/p>\n<p>In the above and the <a href=\"http:\/\/igs.bkg.bund.de\/ntrip\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BNC list<\/a> you can find client software for all the major operating systems, and a number of these products \/ firms also provide their code as open source.<\/p>\n<p>Need to write your own client for an embedded project?\u00a0 The above products cover C, C++, VB, Java, PHP and a few other languages.\u00a0 If you have prior experience in developing sockets and\/or serial port, you will find the process fairly easy.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/igs.bkg.bund.de\/root_ftp\/\/NTRIP\/software\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here <\/a>is the BKG FTP site with a huge pile of useful client source code to browse and consider.<\/p>\n<h4>Connectivity<\/h4>\n<p>Most of the above products presume that there is a TCP\/IP connection which can be used to connect to the NTRIP Caster, and then a local serial port or Bluetooth which connects to your rover GNSS.<\/p>\n<h4>Radios<\/h4>\n<p>There are many other products that handle the wireless &#8220;last mile&#8221; to make a wireless connection to your rover.\u00a0 Historically that <em>last mile<\/em> link has been a separate industry within GNSS where <em>point to point<\/em> or broadcast radio devices have been used.\u00a0 Even today, the typical RTK survey crew often comes to the site with sets of private radios to overcome this issue.<\/p>\n<p>Now that cellular coverage is available in much of the world, this is less of an issue.\u00a0 However, some applications still require a local radio link.\u00a0 Many people use WiFi or WiMax or this, others use 900MHz, 2.4GHz, or 5.8GHz radio links in the unlicensed ISM bands. The precise regulations and rules vary depending on what part of the world you live in.\u00a0 The rapid growth in RTK applications for aerial drone use has changed the landscape in this respect.\u00a0 Short range radio transmitter circuit boards can be obtained by hobbyists for tens of dollars, allowing them to connect reliability over small coverage regions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right; padding-left: 30px;\">At this time, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>provides TCP\/IP connectivity, but it does not link directly to proprietary radios interfaces.\u00a0 Most radios suitable for this type of use allow TCP\/IP connections, and a few others require the use of a serial port (both supported in <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> today).\u00a0 This is rarely an issue in practice.\u00a0 Please contact us if you require some form of direct push support for a unique radio link.\u00a0 It is likely we already have a solution for you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>See also:<\/strong> <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-ntrip-client-should-i-use\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this<\/a> knowledge base article for more <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-client\/\">NTRIP Client<\/a> sources.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>See also: this knowledge base article for more NTRIP Client sources.
