What is new in the SNIP<\/span> 1_9_0 release<\/strong>\u00a0 [released May 19th, 2017]<\/p>\n

The Ubuntu release of SNIP<\/span> is no longer supported.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

What is new in the SNIP<\/span> 1_7_0 release<\/strong>\u00a0 [released April 7th, 2017]<\/p>\n

This release of SNIP<\/strong><\/span> follows the Rev 1_6_0 release but is targeted for the 64 bit Ubuntu<\/strong> OS.<\/p>\n

This is only a BETA release at this time.\u00a0\u00a0 The port of SNIP<\/strong><\/span> from Windows to Ubuntu is based on the SNIP<\/strong><\/span> 1.6.0 release and contains the precise same set of features found in the Windows edition.\u00a0 A few key points about this release follow:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • SNIP<\/strong><\/span> is a rich GUI application experience, so a \u201cheadless\u201d Ubuntu deployment would not be suitable to run it.<\/li>\n
  • The same free Lite<\/strong><\/em> <\/span>model with paid other models (Basic<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, Pro<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, etc.) and node locked registration process is used in the Ubuntu edition.<\/li>\n
  • On the whole, there is no noticeable performance difference between the Windows and Ubuntu operating system for SNIP<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 The credit for this goes entirely to Qt, the cross platform tool upon which SNIP<\/strong><\/span> is developed.<\/li>\n
  • The initial release has been built for a 64 bit operating system, using LTS release 16.04.<\/li>\n
  • As with the Windows copy of SNIP<\/strong><\/span>, good connectivity to the internet, preferably with a static IP to support your NTRIP Clients’ finding your SNIP<\/strong><\/span> Caster node, is presumed.<\/li>\n
  • This beta release runs under root, which is less than ideal for a public facing server.\u00a0 This will be corrected in the next revision.<\/li>\n
  • This release is intended for Intel platforms; it will not work with embedded ARM architectures.<\/li>\n
  • Today Ubuntu uses “Unity” as its graphical shell.\u00a0 Other GUI formats in similar distributions (GNOME, KDE, MATE, etc.) are known to work with minor visual textual formatting issues–user beware.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The overall look and feel is the same as found for SNIP<\/strong><\/span> on other platforms.\u00a0 Further notes on installing and running SNIP<\/strong><\/span> can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
