{"id":3483,"date":"2017-05-14T16:44:02","date_gmt":"2017-05-14T16:44:02","guid":{"rendered":"\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=3483"},"modified":"2020-07-26T23:40:58","modified_gmt":"2020-07-26T23:40:58","slug":"saving-console-logs","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/saving-console-logs\/","title":{"rendered":"Saving Console Logs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are times (often when debugging a problem with an PUSH-In <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-server\/\">NTRIP Server<\/a> or <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-client\/\">NTRIP Client <\/a>connection) that a complete log of the console message stream events is desired.<\/p>\n<p>Three buttons above the console log display area serve this function and allow capturing the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> log for longer periods of time (as often as twice daily).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3486 size-post-mid\" src=\"\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows-600x178.png\" alt=\"ConsoleAutoSaveArrows\" width=\"600\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows-600x178.png 600w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows-300x89.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows-768x228.png 768w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows-1024x304.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows-50x15.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows-920x273.png 920w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows-320x95.png 320w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ConsoleAutoSaveArrows.png 1207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The saved data does not depend on the current <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/how-to-use-the-threshold-filter-control\/\">filter settings.\u00a0<\/a> Rather, it will record every console log entry regardless of whether that entry was ever displayed to the user.\u00a0 The console log is discussed in general terms <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/console-logging\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Auto Save<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Auto Save Button enables the automatic saving of all console log entries in a comma separated value list (csv) suitable for post processing in common tool such as Excel or mySQL.\u00a0\u00a0 The format is documented in the file and consists of a time stamp and key data for every entry.\u00a0 A new file is created every 12 hours thereafter.\u00a0 Changes are noted in the console, like these entries below:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Periodic transcripts of the complete Console Display will be auto-saved into a log, with a new file created every 12 hours.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">No Periodic transcripts of the Console Display will be auto-saved.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>HINT<\/strong><\/span>: But a transcript log will be created whenever you press the Save icon to the right.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Console entries saved, wrote 34,407 entries into file: \/Console_170515_12.csv, size is: 868.25 K<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These files are placed at whatver path you have selected to <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/saving-data-into-log-files\/\">save data<\/a> for that <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> machine in the ..\/SNIPlogs folder.\u00a0 See the <strong><em>Data Files Settings<\/em> dialog<\/strong>, under the <em><strong>Logs<\/strong> <\/em>menu item.<\/p>\n<p>These log files can be quite large in an active NTRIP Caster, but this is the first button the operator should check when &#8220;something odd happened overnight&#8221; sorts of problem are present.\u00a0\u00a0 In extreme problem cases, SCSC may request that you capture these logs and send them to us for analysis.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>File Save<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Pressing this button will cause a &#8220;quick&#8221; log to be created with only the most recent entries.\u00a0 The resulting file will be time-stamped where it is created.\u00a0 This is of value when capturing a transitory event on a busy Caster.\u00a0 Note that such <strong>QUICK<\/strong> files have the word Quick in them and the time stamp is to the minute (rather than the hour). \u00a0 Here are two examples to compare:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Console entries saved, wrote 34,407 entries into file: \/Console_170515_12.csv, size is: 868.25 K<\/li>\n<li>Console entries saved, wrote 19 entries into file: \/QuickConsole_170515_2103.csv, size is: 2.86 KB<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Clipboard Save<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Pressing this button will cause the same &#8220;quick&#8221;
