{"id":3568,"date":"2017-05-25T17:09:33","date_gmt":"2017-05-25T17:09:33","guid":{"rendered":"\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=3568"},"modified":"2018-11-09T12:06:56","modified_gmt":"2018-11-09T12:06:56","slug":"breaking-news-bug-push-streams","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/breaking-news-bug-push-streams\/","title":{"rendered":"Correcting a bug in PUSH-In streams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has just been reported, and verified by <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/support-contact\/\">SCSC staff<\/a>, that there is a logic bug in the recent release of the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>(issued May 17th) <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/release-1_8_0-changes\/\">Revision 1.8.0<\/a> concerning the way in which <strong>PUSH-In<\/strong> connections and data streams are processed for users with the (free) <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Lite<\/strong><\/em><\/span> model. The bug prevents accepting any <strong>PUSH-In<\/strong> connections, even when the password provided is correct for the <em>free <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Lite<\/strong> <\/span><\/em>model.<\/p>\n<p>Users with other models (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Evaluation<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>users, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Basic<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Pro<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Enterprise <\/strong><\/em><\/span>models of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">are not affected<\/span> by this.\u00a0 But the Ubuntu beta (revision 1.9.0) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is<\/span> also affected by this.<\/p>\n<p>Users with older versions of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> are also <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> affected by this.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Lite<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>Users are advised to update to the new release (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/download\/\">download here<\/a>) <strong>IF<\/strong> your use of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> depends on the having any remote <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-server\/\">NTRIP Servers<\/a> sending data streams to you using the <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-pushed-streams-tab\/\">PUSH-In<\/a> feature.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/raw-tcpip-streams-tab\/\">RAW TCP\/IP<\/a> data stream connection logic is also <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> affected by this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>SNIP <span style=\"color: #800000;\">Models<\/span> Effected<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>only <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Lite<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>Models, version 1.8.0 for <strong>Windows 32\/64<\/strong> operating systems<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>only <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Lite<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>Models, version 1.9.0 for <strong>Ubuntu 64<\/strong> operating systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The issue only effects the use of <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-pushed-streams-tab\/\">PUSH-In<\/a> streams for these models.<\/p>\n<h3>Details of the Issue<\/h3>\n<p>When a valid PUSH-In connection attempt is made, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> replies with console entries like:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">[<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">XXX<\/span>]: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong><\/span>: NTRIP Server Connection Attempt #<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Cxxx<\/span> from IP:<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">xx.xx.xx.xx<\/span> Port:<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">pppp<\/span>, was <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Rejected<\/span><\/strong>.\r\n[<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">XXX<\/span>]: The mountPt [<span style=\"color: #993300;\">XXX<\/span>] was Rejected due to a <strong>BAD<\/strong> Password [<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">YYY<\/span> at:\u00a0 &lt;your local time&gt;\r\n[<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">XXX<\/span>]: Disconnected client ' #<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Cxxx<\/span>' from: at &lt;your local time&gt;<\/pre>\n<p>Where: <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">XXX<\/span> is the name of your PUSH-In mountPt, <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">YYY<\/span> is the password which was sent, <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">xx.xx.xx.xx<\/span> is the IP that is sending the data, <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">pppp<\/span> is the port number that it used, and <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">#Cxxx<\/span> is the Nth connection\u00a0\u00a0 If you have the <em>&#8220;Display Connection Details&#8221;<\/em> switch checked, you will see the actual connection content displayed above these lines.<\/p>\n<p>The password comparison, even when it matches the value which you have <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-pushed-data-streams-from-ntrip-servers\/\">setup for use<\/a>, is always rejected on <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Lite<\/strong><\/em><\/span> installations.<\/p>\n<h3>Recommended Workaround<\/h3>\n<p>There is no workaround with the current release. If this feature is not required for your Caster needs, we suggest you ignore this issue until you elect to upgrade. [Lifetime Updates are free with <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Lite<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>users can also upgrade to the <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Basic<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>model and overcome the issue in that way (preferred solution).\u00a0 Or users can revert to the older <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/release-1_6_0-changes\/\">1.6.0 release<\/a> where this functionality was not disturbed.\u00a0 Or users can remove the <em>license.dat<\/em> file from the application folder which will cause <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> to revert to an <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Evaluation<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>model with a one hour operating time limit.<\/p>\n<h3>Current Status, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Resolved<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Patch Deployed<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 A correction has been developed and is deployed at this time. We have issued a new revision (labeled as <strong>1.8.1<\/strong>) and placed it on the site for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/download\/\">download<\/a> at this time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><strong>Note<\/strong><\/em><\/span>: If you are using release 1.8.0 then your copy of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>will be automatically notified of the new release when it occurs due to the new <a href=\"\/kb\/knowledge-base\/auto-update\/\">auto-update<\/a> feature which was added in release 1.8.0.\u00a0 You will be then be promoted if you want to update to the new release (please do so).\u00a0 The time required to download, install, and restart <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> (the time your Caster will be offline to your clients) is typically under 60 seconds.\u00a0\u00a0 This release replaces the prior 1.8.0 download links on the site as well.<\/p>\n<p>As a general rule, releases are numbered in the form 1.x.0 and any value not ending in zero indicates there was a need for a code patch, as in this case.\u00a0 A need for such a patch has occurred only once before.\u00a0 We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused some <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Lite<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>users.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Status Last updated May 18th.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has just been reported, and verified by SCSC staff, that there is a logic bug in the recent release of the SNIP (issued May 17th) Revision 1.8.0 concerning the way in which PUSH-In connections and data streams are processed for users with the (free) Lite model.
