{"id":4416,"date":"2017-12-11T20:21:54","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T20:21:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=4416"},"modified":"2019-11-25T00:34:30","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T00:34:30","slug":"orbit-and-clock-corrections-feeds","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/orbit-and-clock-corrections-feeds\/","title":{"rendered":"Orbit and Clock corrections feeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The number of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> users, both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-caster\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> Caster<\/a> operators, and those connecting to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> nodes with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-client\/\">NTRIP Clients<\/a>, have been asking about orbital and clock corrections (the so called &#8216;State Space Representation&#8217; (SSR) messages found in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/rtcm-3-message-list\/\">RTCM 3.3 messages<\/a> and beyond).\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> handles every defined and adopted SSR message, as well as those still in the experiential range and those send in proprietary message assignments.\u00a0\u00a0 If you wish to send any non-standardized messages, simply disable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/pfat-parse-settings\/\">parsing<\/a> and send the message using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/using-snip-as-a-bent-pipe\/\">bent-pipe<\/a> mode.<\/p>\n<p>This article discusses how to set orbital and clock corrections up on your own copy of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> or how to get them from either NTRIP.use-snip.com or from the <a href=\"http:\/\/RTK2go.com\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>RTK2go.com<\/strong><\/span><\/a> open Caster. If you also need a source for a broadcast <span class=\"st\">ephemeris<\/span> stream, you can connect to the <strong>RTCM3EPH<\/strong> stream for that content.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Aside<\/strong><\/span>: It is typical to connect to a <strong>RTCM3EPH<\/strong> stream once just after rover power-up (to obtain the data quickly) and then disconnect.\u00a0 Long term connections can put a usage cost on cellular links to be avoided. The same data is transmitted for long periods without any change until the orbital update (~2hr GPS, ~30min GLO, etc.).<\/p>\n<h3>Corrections to Broadcast E<span class=\"st\">phemerides<\/span> and Clocks, background<\/h3>\n<p>The basic format for sending clock offset and drifts and describing the orbital data for each GPS space vehicle (SV) was developed over 35 years ago.\u00a0 Times (and politics) have changed and we now provide much more accurate data than the original message definition allowed.\u00a0 Many of the firms with claims along the lines of &#8220;<em>download our orbital data and use them for 2 weeks with better accuracy<\/em>&#8221; exploit this fact.\u00a0 Other aspects of the problem (clock drifts and walks) can be bounded but cannot be predicted, hence a semi real time data link is wanted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.igs.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4424 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/igs-logo-igs.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"166\" height=\"60\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/igs-logo-igs.png 166w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/igs-logo-igs-50x18.png 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 166px) 100vw, 166px\" \/><\/a>Thankfully we have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.igs.org\/\"><strong>IGS<\/strong> <\/a>to save the day and provide the entire world with various data products in several ready-to-use formats.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">To use their own words about this wonderful and vital group:\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.igs.org\/about#Mission\">Mission<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The International GNSS Service provides, on an openly available basis, the highest-quality GNSS data, products and services in support of the terrestrial reference frame, Earth observation and research; positioning, navigation and timing; and other applications that benefit science and society.\u00a0 To learn more about the IGS Mission, and how it is benefitting society, please refer to the <a href=\"http:\/\/kb.igs.org\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/201747733-Strategic-Plan-2013-2016\">IGS Strategic Plan<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/kb.igs.org\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/201181307-Progress-Report-2008-2012-\">IGS Progress Report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These two articles provide a very good job of explaining the issues and mention which RTCM message are used for various needs.\u00a0 Keep in mind that you need to be sure what reference frame is being used with the different orbital data feeds as well.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.igs.org\/rts\/products\">http:\/\/www.igs.org\/rts\/products<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/igs.bkg.bund.de\/ntrip\/orbits\">https:\/\/igs.bkg.bund.de\/ntrip\/orbits<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Connect your Caster Directly<\/h3>\n<p>The above two links also include how to register and obtain these data streams directly.\u00a0 Please consider doing this as it also helps IGS to know who depends on this data, and that in turn helps when budget time comes around.<\/p>\n<h3>Date Products on Open SNIP Casters<\/h3>\n<p>You can also connect to our casters. (updated Dec 11th 2017)<\/p>\n<p>On the <a href=\"http:\/\/monitor.use-snip.com\/?hostUrl=ntrip.use-snip.com&amp;port=2101\"><strong>NTRIP.use-snip.com<\/strong><\/a> node we run these products:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IGS01 <\/strong>with the 1060 message\u00a0 (GPS Combined Orbit and Clock Correction)<\/li>\n<li><strong>IGS03 <\/strong>with the 1057, 1058, and 1064 messages (GPS Orbit, Clock and GLO Clock)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the <a href=\"http:\/\/monitor.use-snip.com\/?hostUrl=rtk2go.com&amp;port=2101\"><strong>RTK2go.com<\/strong><\/a> node we run the same products.<\/p>\n<p>Both sites also run <strong>RTCM3EPH<\/strong> which provides world-wide broadcast orbits from all the different GNSS systems.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">With 1019, 1020, 1043, 1044, 1045, 1046 and 1042 messages<\/p>\n<p>The message rates vary, but clocks are typically updated at 5 second intervals while orbits are typically every 60 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>For <strong>RTCM3EPH<\/strong> everything is repeated every 5th second, with the intent that once you have a copy your rover will drop off\u00a0 (you do not need to, it is just wasteful).\u00a0 Note that this is <em>every<\/em> SV from <em>all<\/em> GNSS systems in the world, including the ones your rover cannot see at present.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 IGS RTS product streams refer to the International Terrestrial Reference Frame 2014 (ITRF2014).<\/p>\n<p>We will at times use both the Antenna Phase Center (APC) aligned streams, and the Center of Mass (COM) aligned.\u00a0 Today APC is what the RTCM 3.x standard calls for, but much of the PPP type software out there can deal with either.
