New users have asked how to remove a Base Station data stream.\u00a0 When an Evaluation<\/em> <\/strong>copy of SNIP<\/strong><\/span> is registered<\/a> as Lite<\/em><\/strong>, the number of allowed streams (slots) is reduced to three, often bringing this issue to the forefront.<\/p>\n

The most common reason this arises is when the user wishes to replace one of the “default” streams with one of their own.\u00a0 Fresh out of the box<\/em>, SNIP<\/strong><\/span> installs some representative data streams to show the new user how it all works.\u00a0 You can (and should) change these as you see fit.\u00a0 Users often then immediately add a serial stream<\/a> for the local GNSS device they have and proceed to evaluate SNIP<\/strong><\/span> for their own needs.<\/p>\n

An Evaluation<\/em> <\/strong><\/span>copy of SNIP<\/span> <\/strong>system allows up to 8 streams (or slots<\/em>) at once.\u00a0 This is also the number allowed by a Basic<\/em><\/strong><\/span> License.\u00a0 If the user elects to register SNIP<\/strong><\/span> using the free <\/em>Lite <\/strong><\/em><\/span>License, the number of the allowed streams is reduced to only three (and several key features are also disabled).\u00a0 Of course we prefer that users elect to purchase a Basic<\/em> <\/strong><\/span>or Pro <\/strong><\/em><\/span>License for SNIP<\/strong><\/span>, as sales fund our payroll, further development, and maintenance.<\/p>\n

How to Remove a Stream<\/h3>\n

All streams, regardless of the connection type<\/a>, have a right-click context menu<\/a>.\u00a0 As shown below, all streams (except the NEAR type<\/a>) have a “Disconnect” menu item.<\/p>\n

To remove (or to edit) an active stream, you must first select Disconnect.\u00a0 When selected, the stream is shut down in an orderly manner and any clients are disconnected (any NEAR users are assigned to the next best data source).<\/p>\n

The (now inactive) stream can then be removed by selecting the “Remove” menu item.\u00a0 The stream will be removed. There is no “undo” command.<\/p>\n

Removing a stream frees its slot to be reused by another stream.\u00a0 You can then create a new stream in whichever tab supports the stream type<\/a> you require.<\/p>\n

You can also see the number of slots that are unused on your License in the About box<\/a> as well (menu item Help\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u2192 About<\/em><\/strong>).\u00a0 Additional slot Licenses can be purchased at any time and added to your current SNIP<\/strong><\/span> License,\u00a0 see the pricing page<\/a> under Add-on Licenses<\/em> for additional details.<\/p>\n
