{"id":4988,"date":"2018-02-17T18:18:59","date_gmt":"2018-02-17T18:18:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=4988"},"modified":"2020-07-26T23:37:55","modified_gmt":"2020-07-26T23:37:55","slug":"how-to-remove-a-stream","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/how-to-remove-a-stream\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Remove a Stream"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Just right click on the stream, then select <em><strong>Disconnect<\/strong> <\/em>or <em><strong>Remove<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>New users have asked how to remove a Base Station data stream.\u00a0 When an <strong><em>Evaluation<\/em> <\/strong>copy of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/how-to-register-snip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">registered<\/a> as <strong><em>Lite<\/em><\/strong>, the number of allowed streams (slots) is reduced to three, often bringing this issue to the forefront.<\/p>\n<p>The most common reason this arises is when the user wishes to replace one of the &#8220;default&#8221; streams with one of their own.\u00a0 Fresh <em>out of the box<\/em>, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> installs some representative data streams to show the new user how it all works.\u00a0 You can (and should) change these as you see fit.\u00a0 Users often then immediately add a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-serial-uart-data-streams\/\">serial stream<\/a> for the local GNSS device they have and proceed to evaluate <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> for their own needs.<\/p>\n<p>An <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Evaluation<\/em> <\/strong><\/span>copy of <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">SNIP<\/span> <\/strong>system allows up to 8 streams (or <em>slots<\/em>) at once.\u00a0 This is also the number allowed by a <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Basic<\/em><\/strong><\/span> License.\u00a0 If the user elects to register <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> using the <em>free <\/em><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>Lite <\/strong><\/em><\/span>License, the number of the allowed streams is reduced to only three (and several key features are also disabled).\u00a0 Of course we prefer that users elect to purchase a <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Basic<\/em> <\/strong><\/span>or <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>Pro <\/strong><\/em><\/span>License for <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>, as sales fund our payroll, further development, and maintenance.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Remove a Stream<\/h3>\n<p>All streams, regardless of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/stream-types\/\">connection type<\/a>, have a right-click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-stream-menu-controls\/\">context menu<\/a>.\u00a0 As shown below, all streams (except the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/nearest-streams-tab\/\">NEAR type<\/a>) have a &#8220;Disconnect&#8221; menu item.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/MenusCompared.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1160\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/MenusCompared.png 1160w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/MenusCompared-300x103.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/MenusCompared-768x265.png 768w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/MenusCompared-1024x353.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/MenusCompared-50x17.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/MenusCompared-920x317.png 920w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/MenusCompared-600x207.png 600w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/MenusCompared-320x110.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1160px) 100vw, 1160px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To remove (or to edit) an active stream, you must first select Disconnect.\u00a0 When selected, the stream is shut down in an orderly manner and any clients are disconnected (any NEAR users are assigned to the next best data source).<\/p>\n<p>The (now inactive) stream can then be removed by selecting the &#8220;Remove&#8221; menu item.\u00a0 The stream will be removed.
