the Solution:<\/h3>\n<p>Some Trimble GNSS models require the presence of <strong>MT1008<\/strong> in order for them to utilize RTCM corrections\u00a0 originating from other brands.\u00a0 The actual content of this message is most often just the text &#8220;ADVNULLANTENNA&#8221; (rather than only provide substitute text as before).<\/p>\n<p>And, of greater value here, you can now <strong>create and insert<\/strong> these messages when they do not exist in the original data stream. The messages are inserted into the data stream at the repetition rate you have selected after the Base Station location message (MT1005\/1006).\u00a0 <strong>With this simple change the problem Trimble devices are appeased and will operate in RTK fixed and float modes using corrections provided by non Trimble Base Stations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In some use cases (typically where extreme mm level accuracy is needed) the presence of the &#8220;antenna description text&#8221; is not only needed, but <em>must<\/em> adhere to certain naming and capitalization conventions, typically those developed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.igs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IGS<\/a>.\u00a0 These defined terms exist for antenna models where corresponding calibrations tables exist.<\/p>\n<p>Spelling and capitalization differences can cause problems in this field, so with this release of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> we have also added over <strong>700<\/strong> new predefined antenna description strings in a selection box.\u00a0 Along with this is a pop-up with tool tips further describing the antenna make and models they refer to.\u00a0\u00a0 But for most user applications, a blank line of text, or the ADVNULLANTENNA choice (the default) is sufficient.<\/p>\n<h3>A Step-by-step Example:<\/h3>\n<h4>The Source Data<\/h4>\n<p>As an example, we will use a slightly older Hemisphere GNSS device that provides Legacy GPS and GLO content.\u00a0 It produces the common messages of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MT1005 &#8211; Base Station Location in ECEF values, precise to 0.1 mm.\u00a0 We do not use the MT1006 message (with antenna offset) because that value was &#8216;baked-in&#8217;\u00a0 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/post-processing-your-measurements-by-opus-and-others\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OPUS<\/a> when the position was determined.<\/li>\n<li>MT1004 &#8211; The common GPS observational message with L1\/L2 code and carrier measurements.<\/li>\n<li>MT1012 &#8211; The common GLO observational message with L1\/L2 code and carrier measurements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course, more modern devices from Hemisphere all produce MSM messages. If we wish to convert these older message to MSM (or newer messages back to the Legacy formats), <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>&#8216;s <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>PFAT<\/strong><\/span> translations can be used to achieve this.\u00a0 The mountPt we are using for this example is called SCSC located in our Glendora, California offices and is readily available on several of our public Casters including NTRIP.use-snip.com:2101<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the original data stream using <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>&#8216;s RTCM <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/message-monitoring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Message Decoder<\/a> we have:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7162\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MsgsWO_MT1008.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"770\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MsgsWO_MT1008.png 770w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MsgsWO_MT1008-300x195.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MsgsWO_MT1008-768x499.png 768w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MsgsWO_MT1008-50x32.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MsgsWO_MT1008-600x390.png 600w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MsgsWO_MT1008-320x208.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Note<\/strong><\/span>: One small interesting feature to note is that Hemisphere GNSS devices track the code and carrier of SBAS SVs (shown as S133).\u00a0 Most GNSS devices do not.\u00a0 By an RTCM convention that predates MSM, these are placed alongside the GPS satellites and given a numbering above 100. This is why the count of GPS satellites is one less than the number of rows shown.\u00a0 In the newer MSM system, all SBAS content have messages of their own.<\/p>\n<h4>The PFAT Station Details, Translations<\/h4>\n<p>To set up the translation, we select this stream from the appropriate tab, using the stream&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-stream-menu-controls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">context menu<\/a> (right click on the stream) and then select\u00a0 <strong>P.F.A.T.<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Translate&#8230;<\/strong>\u00a0 to bring up the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/pfat-translate-settings-uses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Translate Settings<\/strong><\/a> dialog.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7165\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/TranlateDilog_Empty.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"469\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/TranlateDilog_Empty.png 392w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/TranlateDilog_Empty-251x300.png 251w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/TranlateDilog_Empty-42x50.png 42w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/TranlateDilog_Empty-320x383.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 392px) 100vw, 392px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We then select the <strong>Setup<\/strong> button for the <strong><em>Station Details<\/em><\/strong> entry (the specific translation we will be adding), and are presented with the Translation Dialog for Base Station Details:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_plain.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"575\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_plain.png 575w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_plain-300x240.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_plain-50x40.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_plain-320x256.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Observe that there is a count of all the messages, as well as one for each of the messages that deal with Station Details (MT1007\/1008\/1033).\u00a0 Note that these three values are all zero, indicating that this particular data stream is not sending any of those messages.\u00a0\u00a0 [If it were we might need to the use this same dialog to change the text content of one or more fields based on other needs.\u00a0 While the topic of this article is the <em>creation and insertion<\/em> of a new message, the filtering and translation of message content for any of the fields shown also supported.]<\/p>\n<h4>Which Messages to Send<\/h4>\n<p>As a general best practice. you will want to sent BOTH <strong>MT1033<\/strong> (intended for new devices) and one of<strong> either MT1007 or MT1008<\/strong> (there is never any reason to send both).\u00a0 In various technical articles you will see MT1008 mentioned more often, but there is little difference.\u00a0 MT1007 cannot carry a text string for the Antenna serial number (rarely used), and therefore is slightly smaller. \u00a0 In all cases the length of the text used dominates the overall message size.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><strong>Aside<\/strong><\/em><\/span>: Here we will set the antenna description text to be &#8220;ADVNULLANTENNA&#8221; which is the preferred term as defined by various RTCM SC-104 committee documents.\u00a0 But practical experience has shown that a simple empty text field also sufficient to overcome Trimble device issues.\u00a0 Press the <strong>Edit<\/strong> button to the right if you wish to enter your own text or to select from one of the many predefined Antenna types.<\/p>\n<h4>The Settings<\/h4>\n<p>In order to create a message, we simply check the &#8220;Create&#8221; checkbox for that message. [The use of the other controls is covered more fully in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/translating-base-station-details\/\">this article<\/a>.]\u00a0\u00a0 By convention, these messages are inserted AFTER all observational message have been completed.\u00a0 The Base Station precise location message is used as a trigger event for this (MT1005\/1006).\u00a0 The user can also select how often the messages are inserted.\u00a0 This has some value with misconfigured Base Stations that send out their ECEF position every second, resulting in a more reasonable sending rate and a conservation of bandwidth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7164\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_done.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_done.png 580w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_done-300x248.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_done-50x41.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/StationTranslate_done-320x264.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before saving, use caution to ensure that translations are active (checkbox circled\u00a0 in red at the upper left), then press the <strong>Save <\/strong>button.\u00a0 Ensure that the translations in general are active (a similar checkbox at the upper left of the parent dialog); press the <strong>Ok<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations&#8211;you are done.<\/p>\n<h4>Confirming it works<\/h4>\n<p>If you were to look again at the RTCM Message Decoder you would now see the new messages (MT1008 and MT1033) are present in the data stream.
