{"id":7715,"date":"2021-04-25T23:31:10","date_gmt":"2021-04-25T23:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=7715"},"modified":"2021-05-15T23:52:21","modified_gmt":"2021-05-15T23:52:21","slug":"auto-back-up-use","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/auto-back-up-use\/","title":{"rendered":"Auto Back-Up use"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This article covers how to Back-Up all the critical setting of your <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> installation.<\/p>\n<h3>Auto Back-UP Use<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> provides a one-click method to Back-Up up all the critical settings for your Caster.\u00a0 Simply use the menu item below to perform a full Back-Up.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7727\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIP_BackUpMenu2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIP_BackUpMenu2.png 740w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIP_BackUpMenu2-300x122.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIP_BackUpMenu2-50x20.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIP_BackUpMenu2-600x243.png 600w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIP_BackUpMenu2-320x130.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This will cause a ZIP file to be created with various settings, logs, user accounts, etc. and placed into your current <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> data folder in a directory marked <strong>\/SNIPbackups<\/strong>.\u00a0 A complete list of the files saved can be found in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/backing-up-your-snip-deployment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this article<\/a>.\u00a0 A log file is included with the ZIP (log.html) that contains instructions on where each of the files was taken from and serves as a guide to restoring all or part of the your <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> configuration.<\/p>\n<p>The resulting ZIP file is date and time stamped.\u00a0 The file naming format used is<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;\/SNIP_xxxxx_BkUp_YYYY-MM-DD-HHMM.zip&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Where xxxxx is taken from your <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> lic key, YYYY is the current <em>year<\/em>, MM is the <em>month<\/em>, DD is the <em>day<\/em>, HH is the <em>hour<\/em> and MM is the <em>minute<\/em> (in the local time zone).\u00a0 An example file from April 23rd 2021 would be: SNIP_1x3g9_BkUp_2021-04-23-0403.zip<\/p>\n<p>The most recent ten files are kept by default (this number can be adjusted in the Back-Up Setting dialog).\u00a0 Older file are deleted automatically when a new file is created.<\/p>\n<p>If you have an active Back-Up Service Plug-In (see this page for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/back-up-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">purchase details<\/a>), then the Back-Up process can be scheduled to run automatically at predetermined time intervals (e.g. daily, every 3rd day, weekly, etc.). You can determine how many prior files are to be kept locally.\u00a0\u00a0 You can password protect the resulting ZIP file.\u00a0 And most importantly; you can have the final ZIP file sent offsite for greater disaster recovery protection.\u00a0 Two methods of off-site transfer are supported at this time:\u00a0 by <strong>eMail<\/strong> (requires an active <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/email-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eMail services Plug-In<\/a>) and by <strong>FTP<\/strong> transfer to whatever location you care to use (FTP is available in all models of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n<h3>On Shutdown<\/h3>\n<p>When <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> is being shutdown, you are also presented with the option to make a Back-Up at that time.\u00a0 If selected, the Back-Up process is performed before <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> is closed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7721\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIPcloseConfirm.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIPcloseConfirm.png 330w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIPcloseConfirm-300x182.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIPcloseConfirm-50x30.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/SNIPcloseConfirm-320x194.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 330px) 100vw, 330px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Restoring<\/h3>\n<p>The menu item <strong>Misc<\/strong> \u21d2 <strong>Back Up<\/strong> \u21d2 <strong>Restore a prior Back-Up&#8230;<\/strong> can be used to Un-Zip a selected file. The selected file is then unzipped and placed into a folder marked <strong>\/SNIPbackups\/restore<\/strong>.\u00a0 If the file was created with a password, that password must be supplied to unzip it (password protection as well as a variety of other features are only available when the Back-Up Service Plug-In is active).\u00a0 These files can also be unzipped by any generic ZIP utility as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article covers how to Back-Up all the critical setting of your SNIP installation.
