{"id":7929,"date":"2021-09-21T23:01:42","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T23:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=7929"},"modified":"2021-10-04T21:14:43","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T21:14:43","slug":"email-for-ntrip-clients","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/email-for-ntrip-clients\/","title":{"rendered":"eMail for NTRIP Clients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This article describes how to use a valid eMail address as the NTRIP Client <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-user-accounts\/\">user account<\/a> for rover devices connecting to your <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> NTRIP Caster. The primary benefit in doing this is that such a user can be automatically informed, without the intervention of the Caster operator, when they have made various mistakes connecting to the Caster.<\/p>\n<p>The various <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/automatic-error-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Automatic Error Reports<\/a>, in particular the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/ntrip-client-warnings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NTRIP Client Warnings settings<\/a>, can inform the user after a predetermined number of bad connection attempts occur.<\/p>\n<p>Using eMail in this way is a feature which unique to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> and requires that an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/email-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">active eMail Plug-In<\/a> be present.\u00a0 You can also set automatic eMails can also be sent to the Customer Account who owns that User Account.\u00a0 This is the more traditional way to set up a customer with one or more users.\u00a0 The traditional means provides a convenient method to associate a single owner and a primary eMail with multiple rover accounts (for details see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/user-accounts-vs-customer-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this example<\/a> where a farmer named <em>Martin<\/em> has user accounts for rovers <em>John<\/em>, <em>Paul<\/em>, <em>George<\/em>, and <em>Ringo<\/em>).\u00a0 It also supports basic commercial needs such as the customer billing address and other account details.\u00a0 If you wish to use multiple emails (e.g. Farmall_A@myfarm.com, Farmall_B@myfarm.com) you can also do so if those eMail accounts exist with your mail provider.<\/p>\n<h2>Overview<\/h2>\n<p>When <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> finds a user name which is in fact a valid eMail, and when the connection itself has some recurring problem (such requesting a MountPt which is not valid or is no longer present), <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> will send a posting to that eMail with a summary of why the correction failed. This allows the end user to correct common mistakes without further technical support.<\/p>\n<p>A valid email is defined as one that follows the common format of:<strong><em> username@domain.xxx<\/em><\/strong> where the <em>username<\/em> is valid on that <em>domain<\/em> and <em>xxx<\/em> is one of the valid top level domains (.com .org .net .mail, <a href=\"https:\/\/data.iana.org\/TLD\/tlds-alpha-by-domain.txt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">etc<\/a>.).\u00a0 Based on the operator settings, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> will only send one eMail to that address every Nth hour, sending a copy to the Caster operator if requested.\u00a0 If the problem condition persists for a longer period of time, additional eMails may be sent.\u00a0 [A similar method can be used with Base Station connection problems when there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/reserving-pushed-mountpoint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Push_In reservation<\/a>.]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">An example of such an eMail is shown below.\u00a0 In this case the user has request a mountPt name which is not present on the machine.\u00a0 If it had been present in the recent past, the time off-line would be provided as well.\u00a0 [<em>Aside<\/em>: In the NTRIP standard mountPt names, user names, and user passwords are all case sensitive.\u00a0 This is a common cause of problem as well. If the requested mountPt was a &#8216;near miss&#8217; to a valid name, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong> <\/span>would inform the user of this as well.]<\/p>\n<pre>Dear  \u00a0 &lt;user.name@domain.com&gt;\r\nAt this time the User Account <span style=\"color: blue;\"><b>user.name@domain.com<\/b><\/span> is trying to connect to Base Station <b>rootOff<\/b> \r\nbut is having problems on the SNIP NTRIP Caster located at <b>rtk2go.com:2101<\/b> (RTK2go). \r\n\r\nYou have been sent this automated email in the hopes the below details will allow you \r\nto correct the problem. Below is the log entry from the last connection. \r\nThis has now occurred <b>50<\/b> times in the recent past, which triggered this email to you. \r\nThe IP address from which this connection came was: 209.xxx.xxx.18x\r\nYou may need to consult your last reservation eMail to confirm that the credentials are correct. \r\n\r\n<i><b>Connection Transcript Log:<\/b>\r\n<\/i>\r\n \u00a0\u00a0You were sent the Caster Table because the mount point that you requested [<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>rootOff<\/b><\/span>]\r\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0is <b>NOT PRESENT<\/b> on <i>this<\/i> Caster at <i>this<\/i> moment in time. \r\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0---\r\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Data streams often are off-line for few moments every day, \r\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0But if this persists it is very likely that you are asking for stream that does not exist.\r\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0After a period of time the Caster Operator may take offense at these connections.\r\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The NTRIP Client connection originated from: 209.xxx.xxx.18x:59726\r\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The NTRIP Client connection exchange was:\r\n\r\nGET \/rootOff HTTP\/1.1\r\nHost: rtk2go.com\r\nNtrip-Version: Ntrip\/2.0\r\nUser-Agent: Ntrip NovAtelClient\/1.1\r\nConnection: close\r\nAuthorization: Basic ==removed==\r\n\r\nPlease correct this as soon as possible to avoid having your IP address blocked by the Caster. \r\nRegards, The &lt;SNIP instance name here&gt;<\/pre>\n<p>In the above example a bad connection has occurred 50 times in a row.\u00a0 This trigger threshold can be set by the operator.<\/p>\n<h3>Open versus Closed Caster<\/h3>\n<p>This feature can be used with either an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/an-open-ntrip-caster\/\">open Caster<\/a> or a closed Caster.\u00a0 Closed Casters do not allow access their their resources (Base Stations) unless an account has been previously set up for the user.\u00a0\u00a0 With open Casters the use of the eMail method provides a simple way to contact users having problems when they do not have an actual user account set up.\u00a0\u00a0 The popular <a href=\"http:\/\/www.RTK2go.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.RTK2go.com<\/a> NTRIP Caster is an example of this.<\/p>\n<h3>Enabling this Feature<\/h3>\n<p>This feature is controlled by checking the checkbox &#8220;<strong>Enable Auto-eMail for Autonomous Users<\/strong>&#8221; which is part of the <strong>Preferences<\/strong> Dialog.\u00a0 The dialog is reached with the menu command:\u00a0 <em><strong>Edit<\/strong> <\/em>\u21d2 <em><strong>Preferences<\/strong><\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>If you will be running the Caster in an Open mode, also check the checkbox &#8220;<strong>Allow Autonomous Access for Users&#8230;<\/strong>&#8221; found in the <strong>Registered User Accounts<\/strong> Dialog.\u00a0 The dialog is reached with the menu command:\u00a0 <em><strong>SetUp <\/strong><\/em>\u21d2 <em><strong>Manage User Accounts<\/strong><\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article describes how to use a valid eMail address as the NTRIP Client user account for rover devices connecting to your SNIP NTRIP Caster.
