{"id":8730,"date":"2023-04-13T18:29:37","date_gmt":"2023-04-13T18:29:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=8730"},"modified":"2023-06-05T13:34:13","modified_gmt":"2023-06-05T13:34:13","slug":"the-user-accounts-dialog","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-user-accounts-dialog\/","title":{"rendered":"The User Accounts Dialog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>User Account Dialog<\/strong> is used to manage all the User Accounts (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-client\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NTRIP Client<\/a> accounts) you allow to access your NTRIP Caster.\u00a0\u00a0 Unless you are running your Caster in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/an-open-ntrip-caster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open mode<\/a>, then every device that connects the Caster <strong>must<\/strong> have an active user account to connect and get base station data.<\/p>\n<p>This article discusses how to use the User Accounts dialog to manage your users.\u00a0\u00a0 You can add new users and set-up various usage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/user-accounts-adding-restrictions\/\">restrictions<\/a>, all of which is discussed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-users\/\">this article<\/a>. \u00a0 If the <em><strong>Advanced User Management<\/strong><\/em> Plug-In is present, each User Account can (optionally) be &#8220;owned&#8221; by a <strong>Customer Account <\/strong>you create, which is described further in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/user-accounts-vs-customer-accounts\/\">this article<\/a>.\u00a0 Finally, a summary of all the active connected users is displayed by using the <strong>Connected Users Dialog<\/strong>, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/viewing-current-users\/\">this article<\/a> for details. [If you are using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/web-api-top-page\/\">Web-API<\/a> you can also see connected users over a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/web-api-display-all-connected-users\/\">web interface<\/a>, as well as perform many common management functions to add\/remove\/edit User Accounts]<\/p>\n<p>You can open this dialog by clicking on <strong>Edit Users<\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-caster-and-clients-tab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caster and Clients tab<\/a>, or with the menu command <strong>Setup<\/strong> \u21d2 <strong>Manage User Accounts&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/UsersAccountsDialog.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8734 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/UsersAccountsDialog.png?_t=1681401400\" alt=\"\" width=\"670\" height=\"440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/UsersAccountsDialog.png 670w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/UsersAccountsDialog-300x197.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/UsersAccountsDialog-50x33.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/UsersAccountsDialog-600x394.png 600w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/UsersAccountsDialog-320x210.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This dialog can be divided into three primary sections, the controls in each are discussed in more depth below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The top section<\/strong> shows various global settings for user access, visual controls regarding how the users are displayed in the table, and two buttons for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/import-export-user-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>import<\/em> and <em>export<\/em> of the user accounts<\/a>.\u00a0 The normal &#8220;<strong>i-button<\/strong>&#8221; for information and help with this dialog is also present and will display this knowledge base page from the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> Caster in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-document-viewer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">document viewer<\/a> when clicked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The middle section<\/strong> shows all the user accounts with various details in a table.\u00a0 These can also be sorted by clicking in the column headers.\u00a0 Various tool-tips provide more details for each entry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bottom section<\/strong> contains buttons which are used to manage the display and to add or edit specific selected user accounts.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>The top section<\/h3>\n<p>The left section contains three check boxes that control how users and other parties will access your Caster.<\/p>\n<p>The most import of these is the checkbox labeled:<br \/>\n<strong>Allow Anonymous Access for Users (no user account required)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When this is <strong>checked<\/strong> any remote party will be able to access the Caster and request base station (mountPt) data from it.\u00a0 Your Caster is &#8220;open&#8221; to others.<\/li>\n<li>When this is <strong>UN-checked<\/strong> only those with a valid User Account you have created will be able to access the Caster and request base station (mountPt) data from it.\u00a0 And they will be limited in this by any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/user-accounts-adding-restrictions\/\">restrictions<\/a> you have established for that user account.\u00a0 Your Caster is &#8220;closed&#8221; to others. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>This is the normal mode of operation.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The checkbox labeled <strong>And, Require Anonymous Users to provide an email&#8230;<\/strong> is only used when operating in the <strong>open<\/strong> mode.\u00a0 When checked, the Caster will reject any connection attempt when the user account name is not a valid looking email account.\u00a0 This is used to ensure that the Caster can send back advisory emails to the connecting user when persistent errors in the connection process occur.<\/p>\n<p>The checkbox labeled <strong>Allow Use-SNIP.com access for quality monitoring<\/strong> can be left checked or not.\u00a0 This is only used to support unusual deployment problems.\u00a0\u00a0 The <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> technical support staff will not access your machine without your express prior consent.<\/p>\n<p>A current status line (typically in a blue font) is also displayed.<\/p>\n<p>The middle section contains a number of checkboxes that control how the table is to be displayed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Terse<\/strong> causes the table to have fewer summary details displayed. When UN-checked the table also displays a lifetime summary for each user account of<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total connection counts<\/li>\n<li>Total accumulated connection time<\/li>\n<li>Total data ever sent to the account<\/li>\n<li>Total data ever received from the account<\/li>\n<li>Total number of NMEA $GGA sentences ever received from the account<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Show Non-Active<\/strong> shows or hides User Accounts that are not actively connected at the current time. See also the the <em>Connected Users Dialog <\/em>for a simple way to display active connections, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/viewing-connected-users\/\">this article<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tight Layout<\/strong> causes the line spacing in the table to be smaller so more lines can be viewed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fewer Tips<\/strong> lowers the number of details and tool tips created for each entry, resulting in a minor saving in rendering speed.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, there are three icon buttons along the right side as follows<\/p>\n<p>The small &#8220;<strong>i-button<\/strong>&#8221; opens this page in the document viewer when pressed for on-line help.<\/p>\n<p>The middle downward arrow button allows <strong>importing a list of User Accounts<\/strong> from a tab separated text file.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom upward arrow button allows <strong>exporting a list of User Accounts<\/strong> into a tab separated text file.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>The middle section<\/h3>\n<p>This section contains a table that shows all the user accounts, sorted by whatever column header was last clicked (click twice to reverse the sorting order for a column).\u00a0 For example, you might click on the column &#8220;Last Connection&#8221; to see which accounts were most recently connected (or are connected at the moment).<\/p>\n<p>You can select an entry to operate on it.\u00a0 You can then right-click for a pop-up menu with commands to <strong>edit<\/strong>, <strong>remove<\/strong>, or get a <strong>report<\/strong> for that entry.\u00a0 Or you can use the buttons found at the bottom of the dialog for these operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><strong>Aside<\/strong><\/em><\/span>: You can also get a summary report for a user by using the menu command<br \/>\n<strong>Reports<\/strong> \u21d2 <strong>Accounts<\/strong> \u21d2 <strong>Single User Account Report<\/strong> and then selecting the user of interest from the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>The bottom section<\/h3>\n<p>This section contains various buttons that operate on the currently selected user account or the dialog itself as follows.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Add User<\/strong>, Used to create a new user account, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-user-accounts\/\">described further here<\/a>. If you have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/enhanced-user-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cEnhanced User Management\u201d Plug-In<\/a> you can also add a wide variety of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/user-accounts-adding-restrictions\/\">access restrictions<\/a> to the user account.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Edit User<\/strong>, Used to edit the values of the selected user, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-users\/\">described further here<\/a>.\u00a0 If you have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/enhanced-user-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cEnhanced User Management\u201d Plug-In<\/a> you can also edit any of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/user-accounts-adding-restrictions\/\">access restrictions<\/a> for the user account.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Remove User<\/strong>, Removes the selected user after presenting a simple &#8220;are you sure&#8221; dialog.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Pause<\/strong>, Pauses the automatic updating of the user table.\u00a0 This is useful when examining the table and not wanting the data (or the current sorted order) to change.\u00a0 The default behavior is to update the table with the most current data every 5th second.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Reload<\/strong>, Reloads and updates the table after a Pause has been invoked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>eMail<\/strong>, Sends a user report for the selected user to the entered email address, and can CCed the Caster admin email account as well.\u00a0 If the selected User Account is assigned to a <strong>Customer Account<\/strong>, the customer&#8217;s primary contact email is entered as the default (which you can edit).\u00a0 This feature requires a <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>Pro<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>model of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/sending-email-from-snip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eMail Plug-In<\/a> to be present.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Print<\/strong>, Displays the user report for the selected user as a web page in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-document-viewer\/\">document viewer<\/a>.\u00a0 The user can then print the report (if the host machine supports printing), or save it as a file, or send it by email (if the the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/sending-email-from-snip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eMail Plug-In<\/a> is present).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Close<\/strong>, Closes the dialog.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The User Account Dialog is used to manage all the User Accounts (NTRIP Client accounts) you allow to access your NTRIP Caster.\u00a0\u00a0 Unless you are running your Caster in an open mode, then every device that connects the Caster must have an active user account to connect and get base [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":13,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"ht-kb-category":[283],"ht-kb-tag":[178,190,495,311],"class_list":["post-8730","ht_kb","type-ht_kb","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","ht_kb_category-managing-user-accounts","ht_kb_tag-new-users","ht_kb_tag-setup","ht_kb_tag-user-accounts","ht_kb_tag-user-tracking"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ht-kb\/8730","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ht-kb"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/ht_kb"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/13"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=8730"}],"version-history":[{"count":16,"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ht-kb\/8730\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":8777,"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ht-kb\/8730\/revisions\/8777"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=8730"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"ht_kb_category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ht-kb-category?post=8730"},{"taxonomy":"ht_kb_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ht-kb-tag?post=8730"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
