{"id":8830,"date":"2023-08-08T17:18:03","date_gmt":"2023-08-08T17:18:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=8830"},"modified":"2023-08-08T19:42:04","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T19:42:04","slug":"using-viewing-staff-accounts","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/using-viewing-staff-accounts\/","title":{"rendered":"Using \/ Viewing Staff Accounts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This article describes the general use of <strong>Staff Accounts<\/strong> in the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> NTRIP Caster.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Support for Staff Accounts will be released with Rev 3.11, due out in Late August.<\/p>\n<h2>Background<\/h2>\n<p>What is a <strong>Staff Account<\/strong>?\u00a0\u00a0 A Staff Account is a mechanism for a Customer Account (or for the Caster Admin account) to create one or more subsidiary accounts that can access the resources of the owning account using the Web API\u00a0 (the User Accounts or the Base Stations assigned to that Customer).\u00a0 [In the <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">SNIP<\/span><\/strong> NTRIP Caster, Customer Accounts represent legals entities that &#8220;own&#8221; one or more User Accounts and\/or Base stations, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/user-accounts-vs-customer-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this article<\/a> for further details.]<\/p>\n<p>Using this tool, any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-customer-accounts\/\">Customer Account<\/a> can have one or more Staff Accounts created for personnel they trust to review and administer those resources.\u00a0 This serves to offload technical support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-user-accounts-dialog\/\">User Accounts<\/a> to the support staff, giving each individual limited access to the Caster for customer support and troubleshooting.<\/p>\n<p>Each Staff account can be set to have a separate password for <em>read-only<\/em> access or for <em>read-write<\/em> access, and each can be <em>disabled<\/em> or <em>enabled<\/em> for use as required.\u00a0 Limiting the scope for specific staff members (or for the customer that owns that staff) provides a simple means to control access to the Caster. \u00a0This also supports the needs of long term management and control when staffing personal change over time. When a staff account should be disabled, it is simply marked as not active and not other changes to other staffers or to the customer account are required.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Note<\/strong>:<\/span>\u00a0 The use of the Staff Account concept is entirely optional, and some deployments may not find a need for it in their own business model.\u00a0 In order add Staff Accounts one must have created a Customer Account first.\u00a0 To setup and use Customer Accounts the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/enhanced-user-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enhanced User Management<\/a>\u201d Plug-In must be present and active.\u00a0 In order to have the Staff Accounts access the Caster over the Web, the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/snip_web\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Web API<\/a>\u201d Plug-In must also be present and active.\u00a0 And in order to send reports and other details by email, the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/email-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Email Support<\/a>\u201d Plug-In must be present and active.\u00a0\u00a0 These Plug-Ins can be used in the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Pro<\/em><\/strong><\/span> edition of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>Viewing Staff Accounts<\/h2>\n<p>There are two quick ways to view the Staff account associated with any Customer Account.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>#1<\/strong><\/span> Using the menu command <strong>Setup<\/strong> \u21d2 <strong>Manage Customer Accounts\u2026<\/strong>\u00a0 which displays the <strong>Staff Accounts Details<\/strong> (&lt;link) dialog.\u00a0 An example is shown below.\u00a0 \u00a0Hovering over the staff column displays a terse summary of the names of the created Staff Accounts for that customer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8837 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2.png 800w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-50x25.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-600x300.png 600w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-320x160.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>#2<\/strong><\/span> From within the Staff Accounts Details (&lt;link) dialog, double click on any staff member to bring up a display of that Staff member with more details.\u00a0 This dialog is used to edit any Staff Account (&lt;- link to be provided) by pressing the <strong>Staff Accounts<\/strong> button.\u00a0 An example is shown below where the Staff portion of the tree has been expanded to show each member by name (the User Accounts are also being shown).
