released September 8th, 2023<br \/>\n(updating the prior release of 3_10 issued on June 05th, 2023)<\/p>\n<p>This is the next production release of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> following the Rev 3_10 release.\u00a0 This release contains both <em>major and <\/em><em>minor<\/em> improvements in response to user requests.\u00a0 This release supports both 32-bit and 64-bit installations on all Windows Platforms from Windows 7 to the current editions.<\/p>\n<p>It is <strong>STRONGLY<\/strong> recommended that all Windows 32\/64 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> installations now update to using this release.\u00a0 You will not be able to use most Google Map features until you update to this release.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Changes in this release include<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Adding Staff Accounts to the Web API<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In this edition of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> we have added support for \u201cstaff\u201d accounts.\u00a0 By using Staff Accounts you can create a unique <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/web-api-top-page\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Web API<\/a> account for use by any designated person to access your Caster remotely with either<em> read-write<\/em> or <em>read-only<\/em> privileges.\u00a0 The primary purpose of this feature is so that you can designate others to provide technical support for your user community with restricted access to the Caster.\u00a0 And Staff Accounts may be created for any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-customer-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Customer Accounts<\/a> you wish give this ability to as well.<\/p>\n<p>Each Staff Account has its own email (used as the account log-in) and password, and can be <em>enabled<\/em> or <em>disabled<\/em> by the Caster operator.\u00a0 Any defined staff accounts for the administration of the Caster are shown and edited in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-preferences-dialog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Preferences Dialog<\/a>.\u00a0 Any defined staff accounts for a Customer Account are shown in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-customer-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Customer Account Dialogs<\/a>\u00a0 and can be edited there.\u00a0 \u00a0Details about staff accounts and the individual staff settings are also given in various dialogs and pop-up tooltips.\u00a0 Using the Staff account feature is entirely optional, but requires that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/snip_web\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Web API Plug-In<\/a> be present.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8837 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2.png 800w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-50x25.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-600x300.png 600w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/CustomerAccounts-Staff-Tooltip2-320x160.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can read more on using Staff Accounts in these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">knowledge base<\/a> articles<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/using-viewing-staff-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Using and Viewing Staff Accounts<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/adding-staff-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adding Staff Accounts<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Map Display Improvements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In this edition of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> we have revised the use of Goggle Maps in a number of\u00a0 ways.\u00a0 The new maps are faster, visually more pleasing, and produce less of a processing load on the Caster.\u00a0 If the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/web-api-map-baseusers\/\">Web API<\/a> is installed, the map displays shown in Web reports are also improved. Overall coverage regions (for each specific base and for any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/nearest-streams-tab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NEAR streams<\/a>) are now also displayed.\u00a0 These maps can be dynamically panned and zoomed and may be displayed as a full-screen image when desired.\u00a0 A link in the tool tips allows creating another independent Google map centered on a selected Base Station when clicked.\u00a0 Clicking on any icon produces a detailed tool tip for that Base, as in prior editions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Eng.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8862 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Eng.png\" alt=\"Stations in England\" width=\"615\" height=\"580\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Eng.png 615w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Eng-300x283.png 300w, \u201cunder the hood\u201d the overall images now also show any nearby Bases rather than just a single center point for that selected base.\u00a0 This provides a better sense of the resulting network coverage overlap.\u00a0 In the below image you can see the prior style map at left (the antenna tripod of the GNSS is clearly visible).\u00a0 Then, moving left to right, the new style is shown at various zooms, showing rings at 10m, 10km, and 50km as well as nearby stat ions with overlapping coverage.\u00a0 [Click each images for greater detail]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/AZUS_zooms4up.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8863 aligncenter\" https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/AZUS_zooms4up.png 1880w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When looking at a Base within a network, these rings provide a sense of the relative distance to other alternative nearby base stations.\u00a0 Here is a similar plot of the public RTK2go coverage in center Poland.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Pol.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8864 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Pol-300x247.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Pol-300x247.png 300w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Pol-768x632.png 768w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Pol-50x41.png 50w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Pol-600x494.png 600w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Pol-320x264.png 320w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NEAR_Pol.png 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> now defaults to using these images for most plots and maps (except in the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Lite<\/em><\/strong><\/span> models).\u00a0 The older style of maps are still maintained in this release with the words \u201cold style\u201d in the menu text but will be removed in future releases.\u00a0 Some of the maps also make use of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/downloads\/snip_web\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Web API Plug-In<\/a> to add additional details when it is present.\u00a0 For example, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/status-button-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">STATUS<\/a> report the map links in the table of entries can be just the Base Station center point, or the new style with radius rings and nearby Bases, depending on the choices set in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-preferences-dialog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Preferences Dialog<\/a>.\u00a0 Maps may also show baselines from a base to each currently connected user position and user details; but these are only available to the Caster administrator (when using the desktop or the Web API) for privacy reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Other common Web API maps that show the location and the recent movement paths of each user device (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/question-what-is-an-ntrip-client\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NTRIP Clients<\/a>) are integrated with these new maps and continue to work as before.\u00a0 Similarly, you can easily switch between the reports for a Base Station (plotting its location and baselines to each connected user), any connected User, and the User\u2019s recent movement \/ paths.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Push-Is Base Station Streams<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A newly added combo control labeled <strong><em>Select a Report<\/em> <\/strong>in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/the-pushed-streams-tab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Push-In tab<\/a> now allows selecting a number of reports about the Push-In slots that are <em>active<\/em>, <em>inactive<\/em>, or have <em>reservations<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 Three new plots of Base Stations have been added here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NewPush_InComboMenu.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8865 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NewPush_InComboMenu.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NewPush_InComboMenu.png 150w, https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/NewPush_InComboMenu-48x50.png 48w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The operator can request a Google Map plot with<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All the Active Push-In Base Stations, or<\/li>\n<li>All the Active and Recently Active Base Stations<br \/>\n(those active within the last week), or<\/li>\n<li>All Push-In Base Stations with Reservations (active or not)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here is an example plot of 6000+ the Push-In Reservations found on the public <a href=\"http:\/\/www.RTK2go.com\">RTK2go.com<\/a> Caster machine (click to enlarge).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/RTK2goBases.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8866\" src=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/RTK2goBases-300x210.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"350\" https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/RTK2goBases.png 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition, some new logic also detects and corrects a minor problem with Rev2 NTRIP Push-In corrections seen in a few GNSS devices.\u00a0 By the protocol rules of NTRIP every connection request must end with an empty (blank) line.\u00a0 This rule more or less follows the rules of html where the empty line implies the end of the request.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> now detects and allows connections from devices that fail to add this final line.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Misc. Improvements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A \u00a0major bug present in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.use-snip.com\/kb\/knowledge-base\/release-3_10_00-changes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rev 3.10<\/a> has been corrected.\u00a0 In that edition, whenever the Caster was moved to be <em>offline<\/em>,\u00a0 the application would crash due to a newly added background task running every 5 minutes. This has been corrected.<\/p>\n<p>Improved NEAR stream tooltip logic produces better details for several type of NEAR streams.<\/p>\n<p>Logic to allow the Caster operator to add their own Google Map API key has been streamlined.<\/p>\n<p>We have added additional logic to exclude selected IPs from the quick ban and auto ban logic never allowing those IPs to be blocked. \u00a0This was needed due to some deployments where multiple users connect by way of a NAT gateway. \u00a0A single bad user in the group was resulting in everyone else in the same IP being banned.<\/p>\n<p>Certain time delays have been adjusted to be somewhat adaptive when a dead client connection is dropped from logs to perform better with heavily loaded Casters (those with 500+ connected users).<\/p>\n<p>Weekly log recording details were adjusted to track and record bad connections with additional details.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><em>How to Update\u2026<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Updates to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> are always free and easy.\u00a0 Your Caster will be offline about 3 minutes.\u00a0 From within <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span>, simply use the menu item <strong>Help<\/strong> \u21d2 <strong>Check for Updates\u2026<\/strong> \u00a0 Your update will be downloaded from our secure servers and then you will be asked to allow <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> to restart and update itself.\u00a0 On some Windows 10 systems you must also manually exit the current copy of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SNIP<\/strong><\/span> to update.\u00a0 That\u2019s all there is to it!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is new in the SNIP 3_11_00 release &#8211; released September 8th, 2023 (updating the prior release of 3_10 issued on June 05th, 2023) This is the next production release of SNIP following the Rev 3_10 release.\u00a0 This release contains both major and minor improvements in response to user requests.\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":13,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"ht-kb-category":[286],"ht-kb-tag":[363,376,221,518],"class_list":["post-8860","ht_kb","type-ht_kb","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","ht_kb_category-release-history","ht_kb_tag-features","ht_kb_tag-map-display","ht_kb_tag-release","ht_kb_tag-web-api"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) -
